Run for Office: Ready, Set, Run 30-Day Challenge
by National Democratic Training Committee, @traindems

Should you run for office? The short answer is YES!

As more votes get counted, the takeaways from the 2018 midterms grow even more exciting. In addition to a historic number of engaged voters and a higher turnout rate than any midterm election of the last 104 years, this election saw a greater margin for Democrats in Congress than the GOP waves of 2010 or 1994 did for the GOP.

Even more important than the blue wave in the House is the one that swept across every state – Democrats flipped over three hundred state legislative seats and seven governorships in critical states from Kansas to Michigan.

This victory doesn’t mean we can be complacent. In fact, quite the opposite. Republicans still control the majority of state governments, two out of three branches of the federal government, and one house of Congress.

And That’s Why YOU Should Run for Office

This environment is one of the best times to run for office, for you and your future constituents.

That’s why the NDTC wants you to tap into these historic victories and levels of enthusiasm and commit to our 30-day Ready, Set, Run Challenge and take the first steps to your successful campaign.

Every day in January, we’ll send you one task to complete to move your campaign forward.

These will include everything from the big picture issues –

  • Deciding whether to run
  • Helping you identify which office to run for
  • Crafting your message

and so on – to the more granular, like

  • Laying out steps for social media strategy
  • Following the rules for campaigning for your office
  • Writing in your local paper

By the time you complete the challenge you’ll know all about the office you want to run for, have an outreach plan, know your story, and know who can help you succeed; and your campaign will be off to the races.

Deciding whether to run for office is an enormously significant decision – for you, for your family, and for your community – and we want to make sure you’re ready for it.

Everyone has an issue that concerns them.

Everyone has felt government affect their community, in brilliant ways, in frustrating ways, and everything in between.

We all have a story, whether we know it or not.

Take the Challenge This Winter

We need more people like you to run for office – people with stories, concerns, and passions.

People who care about their community.

Diverse people, who represent what America really looks like.

Who will make for truly representative representatives.

That’s why we are here to help you run.
