IDCCA Expands Billboard Campaign to Include Congressman Darin LaHood
Springfield, IL – The Illinois Democratic County Chairs Association (IDCCA) is at it again with their bright yellow billboards, escalating its ongoing effort to spotlight the shortcomings of Illinois Republicans who, according to the organization, have lost touch with the communities they represent. The newest batch of billboards are dotted across Illinois’ 16th Congressional District and focus on Representative Darin LaHood.
The billboards, now live in Bloomington, Chenoa, Freeport, Harvard, McHenry, Princeton and Rockford, direct residents to darinlahoodhasfailed.us, a website detailing Representative Darin LaHood’s pattern of disengagement, harmful votes and misplaced priorities while in office.
“Nobody’s asking for perfection,” said IDCCA President Mark Guethle, “The Illinoisans in LaHood’s district are just asking for the bare minimum of what they pay the guy to do – show up, be honest, deliver results. And instead they’ve gotten a Congressman who votes against their wellbeing, sends nothing useful home, and avoids their questions at all costs.”
Local Democratic leaders and voters across the district worked with the IDCCA to identify billboard locations that reflect the geographic and economic diversity of IL-16 – from smaller rural communities like Chenoa and Princeton to regional hubs like Rockford and Bloomington. Rather than a short-term messaging or voter turnout push, the campaign is designed to put increasing pressure on Congressman LaHood over time, encouraging communication and accountability that the voters of the district, regardless of party, have been denied since he entered office.
The IDCCA indicated that this campaign is part of a growing statewide strategy to invest earlier and more consistently in districts that have historically received less political attention from the national Democratic party.
“This isn’t about ruining LaHood’s day – but that’s a fun bonus – it’s about reminding voters of districts represented by one of our three lackluster Republican Congresspeople that, regardless of political party, elected officials work for the people and when they forget that, you try your best to remind them of you just vote them out.”
