Illinois Democrats Build for the Future with New County Party Leadership
Springfield, IL – The Illinois Democratic County Chairs Association (IDCCA) announced the new 2026-2027 class of Democratic County Chairs this morning as county conventions commenced across the state. The annual conventions, which last for four weeks, mark the beginning of new leadership and fresh direction for Democrats across Illinois.
This year’s conventions saw a significant number of first time Chairs elected. IDCCA President Mark Guethle said this was a good thing and indicated a more future-focused agenda to come, “There is always a balance to strike. You always want to pull in new voices who bring creative, fresh perspectives; but you also want to hold onto enough institutional knowledge and experience that those new Chairs have folks to lean on. Illinois Democrats struck that balance really well this year. We have talented first time leaders eager to step up and propel our party forward, alongside experienced Chairs who are ready to mentor and guide the next generation.”
The 2026-2027 class also reflects growing diversity within Democratic leadership across Illinois. This year’s mark of 39 of female-identifying County Chairs is the highest in state history, highlighting the party’s continued dedication to centering women’ s voices in decision-making.
Additionally, the incoming class features a former graduate of the IDCCA’s Annual Candidate Boot Camp, underscoring the organization’s ongoing investment in leadership development and that work’s benefit.
The Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association works to support and empower Democratic county party leadership across the state through training, collaboration, resources and leadership development.
