Dem County Chairs Kick Off Campaign to Highlight Mike Bost’s Failures

Springfield, IL

The Illinois Democratic County Chairs Association (IDCCA) is expanding its statewide billboard campaign once again, this time turning its attention to the only Illinois’ Republican House members it has yet to call out: Mike Bost.

The signature bright yellow billboards we’ve come to recognize popped up throughout Illinois’ 12th Congressional District and southern Illinois, encouraging viewers to go to mikebosthasfailed.us to learn more about the Congressman’s efforts to suppress senior, veterans, working and rural voters by diminishing Illinoisans ability to vote by mail, among other votes and statements IDCCA labels as “fails”.

“There seems to be something contagious going around our GOP members. Just like Mary Miller and Darin LaHood, Mike Bost also seems to have forgotten who gave him his job,” said IDCCA President Mark Guethle. “The people of southern Illinois deserve a representative who spends their time fighting to make life easier, not to make voting harder. These are Bost’s voters we’re talking about here: senior citizens, servicemembers,  farmers working long hours, mothers balancing two jobs, the disabled – his push against free, fair and accessible voting for all Illinoisans is just the latest example of Bost turning his back on his own constituents.”

But it isn’t just this challenge of Bost’s record,  the organization also points to Bost’s broader voting record. They note that Bost has spent more time supporting legislation aimed at further militarizing immigration enforcement than on the priorities of everyday, working Illinois families. And he recently authored the “Take Care of America’s Veterans Act” which will end up reducing or eliminating benefits from servicemembers.

“Our topline goal is to help the voters,” Guethle added. “It’s to remind folks that members of Congress work for the public, not the other way around. When elected officials stop listening, stop showing up and stop putting their communities first, voters deserve to know.”

The Bost billboards are the latest installment of the IDCCA’s ongoing statewide accountability campaign, which has previously highlighted Republican members of Illinois’ congressional delegation and is expected to continue expanding in the months ahead.
