Gold Toilets, Empty Tables: Illinois GOP’s Silence Screams “Let Them Eat Cake”

Springfield, IL — Congressmembers Mary Miller, Darin LaHood and Mike Bost have once again chosen cowardice over conscience – staying silent as their party spirals deeper and deeper into a Gilded Age nightmare of cruelty and greed.

“While thousands of Illinois families faced SNAP lapses and worried about how to feed their children, Trump hosted a billionaire Halloween bash, flaunted a gold-plated bathroom remodel and strutted through the rubble of the East Wing,” said IDCCA President Mark Guethle, “Trump’s message to struggling Americans: I just don’t give a damn.”

Guethle continued, “What kind of mental gymnastics are Illinois Republicans doing to keep defending a man who throws banquets for billionaires while taking food off of kids’ plates? Do Miller, LaHood and Bost really not feel sick about it? Deep down they know Trump is cruel and selfish – so they should grow a spine and say it out loud.”

“But they won’t,” Guethle said, “Illinois Republicans will continue to stay silent as their constituents suffer under Trump’s ‘Let Them Eat Cake’ policies – tripled health care costs, empty grocery carts, and stripped rights. When the penny finally drops for their voters, Democrats will be ready to take over – not to serve themselves, but to serve the people.”
