IDCCA and President Guethle Slam Misogynist in Chief, DJT

Springfield, IL – The Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association (IDCCA) and President Mark Guethle asserted this morning that ignoring Donald Trump’s continued misogyny and degradation of women has become increasingly dangerous.

“Imagine if that was your wife, your daughter he was talking to like that. I know how I’d feel if those women were my wife or daughter, and I’m just as fired up even though they’re strangers,” Guethle said when asked about Trump’s recent escalation of demeaning comments toward female journalists in the White House press pool.

Aboard Air Force One last month, Trump responded to a question from a Bloomberg News reporter regarding the release of DOJ files related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by saying, “Quiet! Quiet, piggy.” Just last week he replied to a question from CBS News’ chief White House correspondent about the suspect in the Washington, D.C. shooting of two members of the National Guard with, “Are you stupid? Are you a stupid person?”

This behavior is part of a long pattern from a man who has bragged about grabbing womens’ genitals without permission, was found liable for sexual abuse to the tune of $5 million and who has a long, documented history of referring to women as “fat pigs”, “dogs”, “slobs”, “disgusting animals” and “horseface.”

President Guethle continued, “Protesters in Handmaid’s Tail costumes are not pulling some media-seeking gimmick – they’ve been sending us a stark warning since 2016. And to all the Illinois Republicans like Mike Bost, Darin LaHood and Mary Miller who continue to ignore it and excuse the behavior of Trump or the men he surrounds himself with, think long and hard about how you would feel if you or the women in your lives were routinely insulted, assaulted and harassed. That is the future that Trump and MAGA are slowly but surely working to normalize in this country. “

“But Illinois Democrats won’t stand for it. We will call out this misogyny at every turn and continue to remind voters that MAGA’s whole schtick is looking backwards – they want to drag us back to a time where women, people of color, and working-class Americans were treated as second class citizens. That’s not something we stand for here in Illinois and it’s not something we’re going to stop fighting against– across this state and across this great nation.”
