IDCCA Announces Start of 2026 County Convention Season
Springfield, IL – The Illinois Democratic County Chairs Association (IDCCA) spoke today on the official start of the statewide bi-annual County Convention season, with conventions set to begin tomorrow and conclude on Wednesday, May 6th.
Held in every county in the state, these conventions are a cornerstone of the Democratic Party’s grassroots structure in Illinois, bringing together local leaders to organize around common goals, elect leadership on the most local level, and set the course for the Democratic party in our state for the next two years.
“This year’s conventions will be big. We’re seeing energy, enthusiasm and creativity in our party like we never have before and that really starts at the local level,” said IDCCA President Mark Guethle. “We anticipate the passing of the torch in some counties, and while we’re sad to see our battle-tested leaders step down, they’ve earned a break as much as the next generation has earned their moment to lead.”
County Conventions represent both continuity and change–an opportunity to honor the dedication of longtime Democratic leaders while welcoming new voices and energy into leadership roles. Across Illinois, County Parties will gather to reaffirm their commitment to the Democratic ideals that place people over power and truly move our county forward.
The IDCCA encourages Democrats statewide to get engaged and stay engaged with their local County Parties to help shape the future of our party and support the leaders who will carry us there.
