IDCCA STATEMENT ON BIDEN ADMIN FUNDING
FOR FIAT-CHRYSLER PLANT IN BELVIDERE, ILLINOIS

Biden Administration Announces $334 million to Convert Belvidere Assembly Plant
for Electric Vehicle Production

Springfield, IL – Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced more than $334 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to reopen the idled Belvidere, Illinois Stellantis Fiat-Chrysler assembly plant to support electric vehicle production. IDCCA President Mark Guethle released the following statement:

“Today’s news is a win for the people of Belvidere, Boone County, and all of Illinois. President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris are continuing to invest in American manufacturing and putting UAW members to work. And let’s be clear that this investment would not have happened without the steadfast support of Illinois leaders like Governor JB Pritzker, Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, and Congressman Bill Foster. These Illinois Democrats stepped in when workers needed them the most.”

A deal was announced last fall to reopen the facility, and today’s news continues the progress to reopen the plant.
