Congressional Republicans Should Do Their Job, Pay America’s Bills

Springfield, IL – Earlier this week, Senate Republicans voted NO to raise America’s debt ceiling, which would have enabled the federal government to pay its bills. Illinois Democratic County Chairs Association (IDCCA) President Kristina Zahorik issued the following statement:

“It was no surprise when Mike Bost, Rodney Davis, Adam Kinzinger, Darin LaHood, and Mary Miller voted to skip out on paying the tab on Donald Trump’s $8 trillion in debt the other week, but we expected some leadership from Senate Republicans. We were sorely mistaken.”

“Republicans came together in a bi-partisan fashion three separate times under Donald Trump’s presidency to ensure America didn’t default on its bills. Republicans voted for Donald Trump’s $2 trillion tax cut to billionaires and corporations, and now they don’t want to pay for it. Instead, they grandstand and lie about why they’re now voting NO — it’s pure b.s. to obstruct Joe Biden’s agenda to invest in America. Shame on them.”
