DEM COUNTY CHAIRS STATEMENT REGARDING NATIONWIDE PROTESTS

SPRINGFIELD, IL – In response to the growing unrest that is gripping our country, IDCCA President Kristina Zahorik released the following statement.

“Last week, I was horrified to watch the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. My heart goes out to his family during their time of need. His death has again highlighted the issues of police brutality and systemic racism. Far too often we hear these tragic stories, create a new hashtag, and go back to the way things were. We cannot go back.

For the good of everyone, for the betterment of America, we must target this hatred and elect those who will enact policies to make positive change. As former President Barack Obama wrote in his June 1, essay How to Make this Moment the Turning Point for Real Change, we have the power at the ballot box, particularly in those down ballot races. The IDCCA will continue to do the grassroots work to recruit candidates, elect candidates, and promote policy for change. I invite those wanting change to join us.

I am encouraged by all the peaceful protestors, all the young people, who are making their voices heard. I and the members of the IDCCA stand with you.”
