Democrats Lead the Way on Clean Jobs, Electric Vehicles in Illinois
Biden, Pritzker, Durbin, Foster Deliver on Electric Vehicles and Green Infrastructure
Springfield, IL – Last week was a banner week for announcements and highlights of Illinois Democrats leading the way in clean jobs in the electric vehicle industry, a key component of the Democrats and President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan. Governor Pritzker, Senator Durbin, and Congressman Foster all touted investments and developments from Normal to Joliet. Today, Illinois Democratic County Chairs Association President Kristina Zahorik released the following statement:
“Illinoisians have a lot to be proud of when it comes to their leaders in Washington and Springfield. Senator Durbin highlighted President Biden’s American Jobs Plan and the growth potential of electric vehicle infrastructure while showcasing Rivian’s automotive plant in Normal. The very next day and just north on I-55, Governor Pritzker and Congressman Bill Foster announced Lion Electric’s new electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Joliet, promising upwards of 1,400 new jobs.”
“Democrats are leading with plans and real developments for new, good paying — union – jobs. Republicans are spending their time seeing who can genuflect the lowest to a gaslighting Donald Trump. Plans versus politics — that’s the difference between Democrats and Republicans in Illinois.”
Democrats in the Illinois General Assembly are negotiating a bevy of energy bills that incorporate investment in green energy infrastructure such as electric vehicle charging stations. In Washington, President Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats are pushing the American Jobs Plan that will create millions of good jobs — including IBEW electrical workers, as Biden said last month in his joint address to Congress — and help the U.S. compete against the Chinese electric vehicle market.
Conversely, Republicans in Washington are bogged down this week, meeting to likely eject conservative Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney from her leadership post in their caucus because she dares stand up against Donald Trump and his reckless, life-costing lies.
