IDCCA President’s Message

Dear County Chairs and Friends,

The IDCCA had a busy month of August. It was great to see so many fellow Democrats at the annual IDCCA County Chairs’ Brunch and at both of our State Fairs. Thank you for your continue support.

Like many of you, the end of summer afforded me an opportunity to take a quick vacation. My family and I went to Denmark to celebrate the unveiling of a statue, book launch, and exhibition about my husband’s Uncle Barney. He was being honored because of his actions in during the Nanjing Massacre. You can read about it here: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-49524779 .

I mention Barney because he is described as an ordinary man who, when called upon by his conscience, did an extraordinary thing.

We are being called upon. We are being called upon to protect the American Dream and restore American democracy.

We have an Administration and a Party on the other side of the aisle unwilling to stop gun violence, unwilling to address the threat of climate change, unwilling to call out hateful dangerous rhetoric, and unwilling to protect us from the harmful influence of a foreign entity.

It is up to us. It is up to you.

We must do all we can to grow our inclusive Democratic Party, engage voters – the majority of whom share our values, and elect Democrats who will enact the policies we need to restore the American Dream and our democracy.

Labor Day marks the start of the campaign season. Last week, we celebrated the Labor Movement and our friends in Labor with picnics and parades. Now is the time to get to work.

Everything you can do counts. No action is too small.

You can pass petitions, be a precinct committeeperson, be an election judge, be a poll watcher, register voters, talk to your neighbors about Democratic values, make phone calls, send postcards, put a sign up in your yard, donate, and the list goes on. Check with your local County Party or with us at the IDCCA and we can plug you in. You can find links on our website www.ildcca.org .

We must all be all in to win. Every Democrat, everywhere – counts.

So, be like Barney. Be that ordinary person willing to do the extraordinary. America is counting on you.

Best wishes,

Kristina
